Iron Man is a 2008 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Paramount Pictures, it is the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Directed by Jon Favreau from a screenplay by the writing teams of Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, and Art Marcum and Matt Holloway

Iron Man is probably one of the most important films in movie history, it started arguably the biggest film franchise in history; the MCU. This film had so much riding on it, if it was a failure then I don’t know if the MCU would be anywhere near as good or popular as it actually is today. I think the decision to start off with Iron Man was a smart move. At the time, he was maybe a c level superhero, a large majority of the public wouldn’t of even known who he was, this gave Marvel a clean slate to work with, and plus, at the time, Sony owned the movie rights to a lot of their a level superheroes.

I think the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark was a massive risk that has payed off more than handsomely. At the time, he was just getting back into big films, obviously trying to shake off an image that has haunted him for a lot of his young adult life. Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark, and Tony Stark is Robert Downey Jr. They couldn’t of got the casting better. Robert Downey Jr. is a huge part of what makes this film great, he is charismatic, and has a huge story ark throughout the film, moulding from an asshole, into the Tony we’d go onto know throughout the rest of the films. With it being an origin story, it is so character driven, and the character of Tony Stark, paired with Downey Jr’s acting, it can only end in greatness.

Jon Favreau truly is one of the most underrated directors of his time, as well as putting in a great acting performance, his style is woven throughout this film. The way in which he tells a story, as well as display his characters on screen, he truly is in the elite bracket.

I love the story of this film, it truly is the right way to make an origin story, as I said before, Tony has a huge story ark in which along the way, we see conflict, his real character, and the person he used to be. Jeff Bridges plays a great antagonist in this film, he even has his own story ark in which we get to see his real character. I also think that Gwyneth Paltrow and Terrence Howard put in great performances in supporting roles.

This film is a real pioneer in special effects and CGI. This film, especially Tony’s suit, still looks great for a 13 year old film. They truly put out all of the stops for this film when it came to CGI.

Overall, this is one of the greatest origin story’s for any character ever. It starts off the whole MCU on the front foot. It is also one of the greatest superhero movies ever made, and it will be remembered for years to come.
